The type of welders you need will depend on the type of metal being worked upon and its thickness. In general, however, most types of welding equipment work well enough to make a useful joint.
A capacitor discharge welder (CDW) uses high voltage pulses instead of continuous current to weld metal. The process requires less heat than other types of welding and takes a much shorter time. It is used primarily in industrial settings since it allows quick and easy joining of metals without melting them completely.
The following factors will determine the best tig welding machine:
• The size of the job/welding project, which determines the amount of power required;
• The type of metal (steel, aluminium, copper) used;
• The type and thickness of the material being welded;
• The number of pieces involved;
A sizeable electric welder requires an industrial-grade power supply rated at least 300 amps (usually more than 400). It would be best to purchase a dedicated commercial/industrial power supply capable of handling this much current. However, even if you use a standard home power supply, it should still be able to handle the power needs of the average electric welder.
